Well, “1.1.2”:http://www.t3.co.uk/news/247/communications/mobile_phone/iphone-firmware-update-2 is out and that means hacking begins, the main feature for all us Chinese users is that it “finally” has Chinese input. Ryan tells me it is buggy though, so beware. In any case, 1.1.2 appears mainly to be a language release and of course it closes off the TIFF exploit used to jailbreak previously.

“Conceited Software”:http://conceitedsoftware.com/iphone/site/112jb.html has just released its jailbreak software or see “Jailbreakme.com”:http://jailbreakme.com. The instructions are pretty simple if you have a 1.1.1 jailbroken iphone then you need to:

# Launch installer.app on your iphone and scroll down to _Tweaks (1.1.1)
# Select OktoPrep
# Click on install
# Connect your iPhone to your computer and start itunes and click update and pray!
# Close itunnes and reconnect your device, with Mac you double click on osx and on Windows on windows.bat and follow the instructions

I just wish that they would fix Contacts so it can gracefully handle 7,000 contacts. There i for instance now way to do a text search, if you want to find “John Zagula” you get to scroll down 7000 messages!

I just bought an iphone 1.1.2 in Calif. I can not find any Chinese input support. Please let me know how to access the Chinese input on 1.1.2

I agree that they make the contacts app much better, and I also struggle with a long contact list, but you can “tap” on the appropriate letter on the right hand side and you will be taken to that letter — then you only have to scroll through the names w/ the letter you tapped on.
