Playing different video formats on the Mac is a real pain. “Animemusicvideos.org”:http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/playback/playosx.html has a nie list of, if I need to play a format, here is what I need to do with the short answer that beside Quicktime, the main thing you need is VLC:
