pod: London AI Hub January 13 2025

Well we had another one of these great events and it was so good to hear from everyone there and here is the Zoom. It’s a little ugly and messy but gets the points across which are:

  1. 2024 was an amazing year, we largely got the predictions right (but then so did most people). Perhaps the biggest disappointment was that GPT-5 didn’t ship and the biggest surprise was how fast edge compute and open weight models caught up.
  2. 2025 is the tale of two cities (or maybe timelines). The first is that GPU compute is the limited resource and first countries to end up with $1T data centers are going to rule the world. The other city is that the incredible creativity of the Internet and adeptness of researchers around the world will keep it interesting. Hang on to your hats and grab some popcorn!
