net: Azure onboarding in a new country

There are a bunch of steps here, and we are just trying to remember them, so if you are moving to a new country, you will want an Azure account in that country most likely:

  1. Create a trial Microsoft 365 Business account (you need to cancel it later) **in the region where you want to host Azure**. You don’t want to register it in your real domain name, so you use the default onmicrosoft.com address
  2. Typically, you will need a physical address and a credit card that validates that address to do this as a sensible security precaution
  3. It is going to ask you for an authenticator, and although it suggests the Microsoft Authenticator, in small print, there is a “use other authenticators”
  4. If you click on that, you will get a QR code, but if you are using 1Password, you can say, “Can’t see the image,” and you will get a random string
  5. Go to your 1Password and choose Edit > Add More > One Time Password. Then you will get an entry to paste the random string in.
  6. When you choose Save, you will get a six-digit code. Type that into the Microsoft site, and you are good to go!
